At Focus on the Future Training Center we think that the collaboration between home and school is an integral part of your child’s learning process. We also recognize that the parents are the other type of professional, and are instrumental in helping the students achieve the highest degree of success as they journey to the road of independence. With respect to home and school collaboration we have the following beliefs:
1. Parents and the school should cooperate fully in planning and implementing skills that would help the student become all that he/she can be. Parents must be an active and visible participant throughout and across the school years.
2. We believe that parents are the strongest advocate that the student can have. At our school, we strive to build a personal and professional relationship with the families. We will strive to build an equal partnership with the parents and that will be based on trust, mutual respect, and most importantly, communication. Parents and the school will have continuous positive experiences as a team.
3. We believe that parents should have a positive vision about your child’s future. We will accomplish this by ensuring that the parents are aware of services and support that will enable their child to live, work and participate in recreational activities within the community. We believe that the parents’ view of their child’s future is enhanced by their positive interactions with other parents of children with disabilities. Parents will be in a far better position to evaluate specific educational goals and opportunities, if they can share personal experiences with other parents that have been there.
4. We, at Focus on the Future Training Center, have a particular responsibility to ensure that our parents are aware of and utilize the services that are available within the community that can make a positive impact on their lives.
5. Finally, personal contact is essential to any meaningful relationship, and the relationship between the teacher/professional and parents is no exception. Ongoing and continuous positive contact between the child’s teacher and family must be developed and maintained in a manner that is perceived as being rewarding to all participants.
Focus on the Future Training Center welcomes you to our team and we thank you in advance for your open collaboration and the critical role that you will play in designing an exceptional curriculum that will ensure your child’s success!
